Steven Caufield maintains a diverse real estate transactional practice representing a broad range of clients in the acquisition, development, leasing and management of commercial real estate assets as an Of Counsel to the firm. He began his career under the guidance and mentorship of an extraordinary team of real estate attorneys at Munch Hardt Kopf & Harr, P.C. in Dallas, Texas for 7+ years.
Mr. Caufield’s experience includes representing commercial real estate developers in all phases of the development process. He has worked with developers throughout Texas on projects ranging from urban mixed-use and multi-family residential projects to office construction and rehabilitation to industrial/warehouse projects in suburban and rural locales. As part of his general commercial real estate practice, Mr. Caufield represents commercial real estate owners in leasing and management matters as well as providing representation in all manner of real-property-secured and mezzanine loan transactions. Mr. Caufield also has extensive experience representing local bar and restaurant owners and operators in Austin, Dallas and across the state of Texas in the leasing, operation and management of various establishments and the procurement of TABC licensing.
Additionally, Mr. Caufield has extensive experience in the purchase, sale, leasing, management and development of hotel and hospitality assets, with over $1 Billion in hotel transactions closed between 2011 and 2016 for properties covering nearly every major hotel brand and across the United States. His work in this area includes ground-up hotel development, hotel conversions and rehabilitations, hotel sales and purchases, and review and negotiation of franchise and management agreements on behalf of owners and third-party managers. In light of Mr. Caufield’s extensive real estate development experience, in 2016 Mr. Caufield was hired by Practical Law, a subsidiary of Thomson West Publishing and Reuters International, to produce a practice guide for lawyers representing real estate developers, which was published by Practical Law as part of its Practical Law Real Estate series.
